title Description
cover   This is a Russian language book on how to knit. My Ukrainian friend pointed out that according to information on the last page of the book, in 1986 two million copies of this book were printed. He said it is likely that most were used for toilet paper. The title translates to 'The ABCs of Knitting.'
Adisanas Pamati

Lolita Selvaha
cover This is a Latvian text that has basic knittting know-how and a stitch dictionary. The stitch dictionary has several stitches I have not seen elsewhere. Most of the patterns are charted or sufficiently illustrated so that knowledge of Latvian is not essential.
Adult Sweaters Knitting Seamless Raglan Top Down

Mary Rich Goodwin
cover Adult sweaters - knitting seamless raglan top down with step by step patterns and photos.
Advanced Domino-Knitting

Vivian Høxbro
cover This is a Japanese publication. It does include English directions when that is critical. All the patterns and techniques are for either the open work domino or a kite shaped domino. Very interesting and not so hard to do.
The Advanced Knitting Architect

Sion Elalouf
cover This is a more indepth version of "The Knitting Architect." It covers the design of a wider variety of garments than the earlier work did.

Alice Starmore Aran Knitting New And Expanded Edition cover This is a revised and expanded edition of an earlier work by Alice Starmore. Her works are always in great demand. This book has a lot of information about how to design using cables. There are patterns for 15 garments.
Alice Starmore's Book of Fair Isle Knitting

Alice Starmore
cover Finely illustrated with charts and photos, this is one of the best works on Fair-Isles knitting techniques. As always Alice Starmore's books are true works of art.
American Portraits

Alice Starmore
cover This is a collection of 8 sweater patterns with an American pioneer theme.
America's Knitting Book

Gertrude Taylor
cover This is a comprehensive work on knitting design and technique. What I find interesting about this book is that it was published by Scribner at about the same time that Scribner was publishing the first of the Barbara Walker Treasury books. The dust cover advertisements on this book show that Scribner was marketing the books to compliment each other.
Anatolian Knitting Designs: Sivas Stocking Patterns Collected in an Istanbul Shantytown

Betsy Harrell
cover This book has charted patterns for about 76 patterns. The charts imply that each patterns is worked in two colors. This is a little misleading in that while on a given row, it is common to use only two colors; more than two colors are usually introduced across the pattern as a whole. There are some color pictures in the book that demonstrate this use of colors.
And A Time To Knit Stockings

Katherine Pence
cover This booklet has patterns for 15 different socks. All are complex and challenging designs.
Andea Kunststricken Nr. 0801 cover This is a Geman magazine that has patterns for 11 doilies or tablecloths. All the patterns are charted.
Andean Folk Knitting Traditions and Techniques from Peru and Bolivia
