Knotretaining origninal stitch on left needle, slip stitch just made to left needle and knit it, retaining it on left needle, slip latest stitch made to left needle, pass second stitch on left needle over first and drop it, then pass following stitch over first stitch and drop it, knit remaining stitch
Note: the knot stitch is, in effect, a short chain of loops that are then picked up and carried over the outer-most loop. This wraps the chain in a little knot.
