Subscribers to the premium site will be able to view a total of
1021 illustrated knitting stitch
patterns. That is 585 more than are available on the
free site and that number will increase.
When new stitch patterns are added to the
database, they will only be available on the subscription site.
In addition subscribers will have the following:
PDF versions of the sweater patterns and stitch patterns (to use this printer-friendly
printer friendly feature, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat installed on you computer)
reduced advertising space
lists of stitch patterns sorted by categories and
number of rows in the stitch pattern
list of knitting stitch symbols (don't go charting without this)
I started this web site to revive the out-of-print Sweater Wheels. I used my knowledge of
databases to capture the information on the Sweater Wheels. That provided the means to
present the
Sweater Wheel information through an interactive web page.
Later I added other simple sweater patterns generators based on the percentages method of
calculating the stitches needed for a sweater.
More recently the focus of the web site has evolved into a presentation forum
for my collection of knitting stitch patterns. Once more I returned to my database know-how
to deconstruct the knitting stitch patterns in manner that could be loaded into a database.
This allowed me to sort and study the knitting stitch patterns. I used this ability to
sort and filter the information to support a web page presentation of the stitch patterns.
My first effort presented the patterns in text only. By late 2006, I had accumulated
over 1000 stitch patterns in my database collection. I decided it was time to illustrate
the patterns with swatch pictures. This started to make the collection more useful.
Now my web audience could see whether a particular patterns might fit their needs.
I still add new patterns to the database and the total is now up to
1838. My focus for the last two years has been
knitting swatches to illustrate as many stitch patterns as possible.
Maintaining the site and knitting new swatches costs time and money.
I tried adding a limited number of non-offensive advertisements to the site. At one
time I solicited contributions from those who felt they were getting value from the site.
These sources did not keep pace with my costs. So I am implementing
a new concept to offset some of my costs.
I have decided to make a portion of the site a premium subscription service for an
annual fee to help offset my costs for maintaining and improving the site.
The fee is now at an introductory level of $10.00 per year for early subscribers. The
fee may be increased later as the premium site grows.
I plan to concentrate future development and additional improvements on the
subscription portion of the site. For faithful visitors who choose
not to subscribe, I am maintaining over 400 stitch patterns with swatch pictures
on the free portion of the site.

Because knitting is a matter of individual abilities
and styles, the information on this site is presented without warranty regarding
its accuracy or the outcome of its use. This site is by no means
the only on-line resource for knitting pattern generators. On the menu at the left of
this screen, the Links item includes references to other on-line sweater pattern
generators. Also there is an excellent product,
Sweater Wizard, that provides detailed, customized sweater patterns.
Most of the pages in this website are written in ColdFusion. ColdFusion is a web
development tool. All tables are derived from material stored
in a SQL Server 2000 database. Sweater patterns are either selected from
database material based on user input; or calculated 'on the fly' based on user input.
Best if viewed with Internet Explorer. Designed on 1024x768 screen setting.
Most screens have also been tested for 800x600 screen setting compatibility.
The site is hosted by Hostmysite.com. Occasionally, HostMySite.com performs
maintenance on the site that can cause brief outages. Thes outages are usually
scheduled between Midnight to 5 AM Eastern Standard Time (EST).
